Ol' Dirty Bastard — A3 Fine Art Print by Gavin Evans, London 1997
Photographed in London, April 1997 for Time Out magazine. I'd been forewarned about Ol' Dirty Bastard — born Russell Tyrone Jones — the most singular and unpredictable voice in the Wu-Tang Clan. A loose cannon, a firebrand, and I expected to need every tool in my layman's box of psychiatry.
I showed him a music video: a character sprinting through a deserted London at night, being chased. He was transfixed. At the end, he turned to me and said quietly — "That was me."
For all the warnings, he was the sweetest of the Wu-Tang Clan, and the one I remember most fondly.
