The David Bowie Lightbox Collection

The David Bowie Lightbox Collection presents six sequential frames from David Bowie — The Session, photographed by Gavin Evans in London, July 1995 for Time Out magazine. One of the most significant portrait sittings in Bowie's career, the session was made with Brian Eno present and produced the shushing portrait that appeared on the covers of Rolling Stone, Esquire, and Paris Match, was selected by Bowie himself for the cover and final page of the V&A exhibition publication Bowie Is (2012), featured in Sotheby's auction catalogues, used by the Recording Academy at the 2017 Grammy Awards, and continues to be used in the promotion of Lazarus, Bowie's final theatrical work, which premiered in New York in 2015. Each lightbox print presents a different sequence from the same sitting — shushing, shouting, emerging from darkness, and an unscripted end-of-session sequence in which Bowie holds a metal serving tray aloft as a halo.
