Harvey Keitel — A3 Fine Art Print by Gavin Evans, Glasgow 1986
Harvey Keitel, photographed in Glasgow, 1986 for Cut magazine. One of the earliest works in the Gavin Evans archive — a monumental Keitel, cigar in hand.
Keitel was, at the time, one of my most revered actors, and I arrived full of expectation and nerves. Moments before the shoot, I was told it was cancelled. So I did the professional thing: grabbed a bottle of wine and downed it. Drunk and deflated, I slumped into a chair to count my woes.
A tap on my shoulder roused me. It was Harvey. "You're the photographer?"
I struggled to my feet and followed him outside — where, to his great amusement, I couldn't attach the camera to the tripod. I was that inebriated. Harvey found it hilarious. I was crippled with embarrassment, fired off a few frames, and he thanked me and returned to the junket.
To my astonishment, one image stood out. Despite everything.
