David Bowie Fine Art Print #20 by Gavin Evans (1995)

Photographed during The Session in 1995, this colour portrait captures David Bowie in one of his most visually intriguing moments. Wearing sapphire blue contact lenses, Bowie temporarily concealed his famously asymmetrical eyes — a subtle but powerful disguise that plays with identity, symmetry, and perception.

Set against a deep black background, this head-and-shoulders composition shows Bowie with a serene expression, appearing from the dark. It is both minimal and arresting — a standout image in the Bowie archive.

This portrait, along with others from The Session, has appeared in Rolling Stone, Paris Match, and been selected for exhibitions and publications by The Grammys, V&A’s Bowie Is, Sotheby’s, and Lazarus the Musical.
