David Bowie Lightbox #2 — A2 Fine Art Print by Gavin Evans, The Session 1995
David Bowie, photographed in London, July 1995 for Time Out magazine. This A2 lightbox fine art photography print by Gavin Evans presents six sequential black and white close-up studio portraits of Bowie against a white background — every frame the same gesture, shushing the viewer, the sequence revealing subtle shifts in expression and intensity across a single sustained pose. The session was made with Brian Eno present and produced the shushing image that appeared on the covers of Rolling Stone, Paris Match, and Esquire, was selected by Bowie himself for the cover and final page of the V&A exhibition publication Bowie Is (2012), featured on the covers of Sotheby's auction catalogues, used by the Recording Academy at the 2017 Grammy Awards, and continues to be used in the promotion of Lazarus, Bowie's final theatrical work, which premiered in New York in 2015. Part of The Lightbox Series – The Bigger Picture. A2 open edition giclée print measuring 420 × 594 mm (16.5 × 23.4 in) on 308 gsm satin matte cotton rag, acid and lignin-free. Supplied unframed.
