For Gavin, photographing actors and performers in the studio wasn’t enough. Immersing himself in the creation of images for the stage not only granted him an invaluable insight into their world and process, but also shaped his understanding of their craft. His dedication to theatre, dance, performance, circus and freak shows has fostered remarkable partnerships with some of the most eminent luminaries of theatre and stage. Collaborating closely with renowned choreographers and directors such as Rufus Norris, Robert Lepage, Romeo Castellucci, Tom Morris, Lloyd Newson and Javier De Frutos has not only enriched his expertise but also broadened his comprehension of the intricacies of the performing arts.

His selection to work with institutions such as; The National Theatre, The National Theatre of Scotland, The Bristol Old Vic, Sadler's Wells, and other similarly distinguished institutions serves as a testament to their recognition of his unique ability to encapsulate the essence of their productions through his photography. Staged is a selection of his extraordinary collaborations.

In "Giulio Cesare," Romeo Castellucci employs diverse body types, including obese and painfully thin actors. This physical contrast underscores the play's themes of power, vulnerability, and distorted perceptions. Translating Castellucci’s theatrical vision into still images challenged Evans' creativity to the maximum.
